... your host. My name is Manfred Schülein. Born in 1966, I am a passionate chef and the
author of the "Upper Black Forest Cookbook". Growing up in the hotel and catering business,
my passion for cooking was passed on to me from my earliest childhood. I learned the cooking
trade in the Hotel Jungfrau in Wilderswil in the Bernese Oberland, and several periods in
well-known hotels followed, among others the Grandhotel Victoria Jungfrau***** and the
Hotel Beaurivage****, both in Interlaken, Bernese Oberland. A slightly different aspect of
cooking, using natural herbs and flowers, extended my cooking skills in my time with "Chrüter Oskar".
In addition to the profession of a chef, I trained as a pastry chef at the Confisserie Perriard
in Fribourg in Switzerland. After the birth of my daughters, I was drawn back to Germany, where
I initially worked at Trescher's Schwarzwaldhotel in Titisee before taking over the Kurhaus-Café
in Lenzkirch. I took over the Pension Waldwinkel in 2001 when my parents retired. Several conversion
and modernisation measures were carried out, so that today I can welcome you in light, comfortable
rooms. Nicole, my eldest daughter, is a qualified hotel manager and Melanie is a confectioner.
Johanna Schülein, our little “straggler”, was born in 2013 and is known as the little whirlwind
throughout the guesthouse. My partner, Frauke Groß, is also a confectioner and takes care of all
the creative wishes concerning all kinds of cakes forthe most varied of occasions. Nathalie Vegelin
looks after the housekeeping and also helps out at breakfast. Also supporting me are my sister
Caroline Waldvogel, my godson Alexander Waldvogel, Antonia Groß and my parents Frieda and Rudi
That's the "Pension Waldwinkel-team"!
